1. What is fasting ?

Fasting is voluntary abstinence or the reduction of some or all foods, drinks, or both, for a period of time. A fast or dry absolute fast is normally defined as abstinence from all foods and liquids for a defined period of time, usually 24 hours or a number of days.


2. The different types of fasting

There are different types of fasting:

The short or long fast

The short fast is a fast that can last from 10 hours to 2 or 3 days.
It depends on individual eating habits and can be a springboard for longer fasts.

The 3-day fast is considered an important point because it is the first that begins to have really important effects.
Indeed, it is said that fasting for 72 hours can reset the entire immune system.

Longo, a professor specializing in the aging process said, “When you are starving, the system tries to save energy, and one of the things it can do to save energy is to save energy. recycling a lot of immune cells that are not needed, especially those that can be damaged ”.

The long fast

From 1 to several days. Some practices have shown that it is possible to fast beyond 20 days.
We must distinguish what fast we are talking about: intermittent or continuous.

Dry fasting or water fasting

Water fasting is fasting with water.
It wouldn’t occur to us to stop drinking for more than a day.
But it actually happens for some who have practiced it.

Dry fasting is therefore fasting without water.
It can be short or long.

Remember that having a special diet is already a form of fasting.
If you do without meat, fish or produce, it is already a form of fasting. Fast here that can last for years.


3. What are the benefits of fasting ?

Fasting is known to cure many different illnesses and it seems to depend on the type and length of the fast.
Among the most common benefits, fasting allows:

  • Stimulation of metabolic activity
  • The generation of antioxidants
  • The reversal of certain effects of aging
  • Protection against diabetes, heart disease and cancer
  • Improving brain health
  • Better form and physical strength
  • Reduced inflammation
  • Reducing blood pressure
  • To have beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system

4. Fasting as a true method of healing

Studies on fasting have shown that in some cases it is the only one to overcome certain diseases.
At the very least to have serious effects on them, and this is the case with cancer and mental illness.

And even for the most serious diseases:

Fasting is known to be a very powerful remedy for many illnesses, even the most serious like mental illness. An experiment in the Ex USSR showed that fasting for more than 25 days allowed a patient with mental illness to recover his mental faculties, which is surprisingly remarkable.


5. Why is fasting so far removed from our practice lives ?

If some have remained very close to the practice of fasting because of respect for their religious practice, others, on the other hand, have completely shifted into a modern industrial and technological world which teaches us how each “void” in our life.

And fasting is precisely the opposite: it is the absence of food for a certain period of time. So a certain emptiness that we are not necessarily used to.

The practice of fasting remains effective in many religions.


6. How do I start the fasting ?

Intermittent fasting is a good first step for beginners.
The long fast should be supervised by professionals.

If you are really far from the practice of fasting, you have to take the time to rethink your way of seeing fasting.

First of all, assimilate that the deprivation of food is not dangerous (as we have been taught for a long time) and that, on the contrary, we come out stronger and sometimes heal certain diseases.

We hardly discover the therapeutic virtues of fasting when it exists in the sacred texts of all monotheistic religions.
It’s free and it seems that it cures a number of diseases …
